Also known as the 1888/7. This overdate variety is one of the most coveted varieties across all denominational series. It garners international attention. Gavel prices for the highest graded specimens are very close to the six-figure mark. Even in grades of Good, this variety can command a very substantial premium.
Overdate: 8 over 7.
The final 8 is punched over a 7. The upper left serif can be seen above the top left of the 8. The lower base of the 7 can be seen below the bottom left of the 8. Remnants of the 7 can also be seen in the upper loop of the final 8. The cud in the denticles above the E in UNITED might exist on all known specimens.
